The Vancouver Public Scholars Awards, granted for the academic year 2024/2025 in Canada, present a unique opportunity for prospective scholars at the University of British Columbia (UBC). These distinguished scholarships aim to identify and encourage exceptional graduate students who exhibit a dedication to public involvement and significant research.
Up to $10,000 is awarded twice, for a total of $20,000 per student, to encourage creative and cooperative academic projects that students might not otherwise be able to. This funding is available through the Vancouver Public Scholars Awards program at the University of British Columbia for the 2024–2025 academic year. It includes research allowances for professional development or travel related to the study, as well as student stipends in situations where the student’s current funding source precludes them from working on other projects.
Each year, about thirty new students from every faculty at UBC, including UBCO, are eligible for financing; cohort scholars may also be eligible for funding renewal for a second year. In partnership with UBC Health, a new “Health Equity Stream” will be available for the 2024–2025 application cycle. This stream will provide funding to scholars who are committed to addressing health-related issues and working to influence health equity. While the applications for both streams are the same, those who are interested in the Health Equity Stream can submit through the Qualtrics portal during document submission.
Benefits of the Top-of-Form Scholarship at the University of British Columbia:
The PSI Fellowship provides up to $10,000 in funding twice, for a total of $20,000 per student, with the goal of encouraging innovative and cooperative academic endeavours that students might not otherwise be able to pursue. There is freedom in how this financing is used, and it falls into two primary categories:
Research Allowance: This part covers the cost of travel or professional development that is directly related to academic pursuits. It pays for costs related to research, attending conferences, or engaging in any other activities that advance the project under consideration.
Student Stipend: The PSI Fellowship may provide funds for a student stipend if the student’s present funding does not permit them to participate in other initiatives. This guarantees that students will have enough money to focus on the alternative project(s) they have suggested without having to worry about running out of money.
Qualifiability Standards:
Funding support is available to UBC Okanagan doctorate students in their first to fifth year and UBC Vancouver doctoral students (including PhD, EdD, DMA, and part-time PhD students) in their first to fifth year.
Applicants must be formally enrolled in a UBC PhD program by September 1, 2023, and must have completed their doctoral degree within a 48-month maximum period by August 31, 2023. Applicants in their sixth year (48 to 60 months of PhD study) will only be considered for eligibility in extraordinary circumstances.
At the end of their first (and, if applicable, second) year of funding, all funded students must submit a report and present their work at a Network event called “PhDs Go Public.” At the end of their funding or involvement, all collaborators, faculty, and students are required to fill out a questionnaire. An evaluation of the student dissertations, their completion, and their professional outcomes will also be part of this pilot initiative’s assessment.

Editing and Saving: Make any necessary changes to the downloaded form and save it with a new name. Give LastName_FirstName_PSI as the file name for your application.
Completing the Application Form: Follow the instructions given to complete the application. Kindly note that the length of each section, which is the “Outline of Proposed Scholarly Work” and the “Relationship of Proposal to PSI Goals,” is limited to one page and a maximum character count of 4000.

Submission of a Qualtrics Form: Go to the Qualtrics form page and go through the Overview section in detail. Fill out the form completely; this should take about five minutes. Verify the information before submitting.
Supervisor and Collaborator Support: Direct the necessary supervisor letter of support and any optional letters of support from collaborators to the Qualtrics form page for submission.
